Presentations!

Last week was PYP 5 End of Year Presentation!

Well done to all students! It was a great show!

During the week, students used some lessons to rehearse, edit and improve their presentation, but also, they used what they learned in the unit about animal classification and characteristics to model and paint an animal out of clay. They could also include some adaptation and evolution concepts in their final sculpture!

This Tuesday is the Fun Afternoon! It will take place on Tuesday, 6th June from 16:00 to 18:00 at Jd Europa Campus. Although it's a social event organized by the Primary Student Council, it also has the aim to support an organization called "Meias do Bem" in a campaign organized by a DP 1 CAS group. Please click here to access the website for more information. Students from PYP 5 to 8 are invited to participate. Parents who want their children to participate must fill in this form and send as many pairs of socks as possible to support the cause. Socks will be exchanged for tickets for the 'Fun Afternoon'.

This Friday 9th June is Pyjama day! Children can come to school in their Pyjamas!

Next Week is the Festa Junina! It will be a simplified version of this traditional Brazilian celebration. We will celebrate it on Monday 12th June at Jd. Europa Campus. Children can come to school wearing their Festa Junina outfits and parents are invited to come and watch the dances. PYP 5 will dance at 15:00. Students will start the day in their own campus and students from Pinheiros campus will be taken to Jd. Europa campus for the afternoon celebration. All parents (from both Jd. Europa and Pinheiros Campuses) will pick up their children at Jd. Europa at the end of the day.

Have a nice week!

Learning Opportunities

Last week was full of different learning opportunities.

Students had some time to research about animals and adaptation, talking about physical and behavioural characteristics of different animals to thrive in their habitats.

One way to share their findings in class was through the thinking routine 'rumors', where students share one thing they learned with a partner and then take their word forward to someone else and so on and so forth. Information travel like a rumor and students get in contact with all information, one way or another.

Students were working with measurement in class. They discussed units of measurement for mass and volume (g, Kg, L, ml..) and learned to use different measuring tools.

Mr. Concagh taught a lessons about how to work with clay. Students had some time to experiment with clay and try out some structures. It was a practise lesson. Next in this area, students will model an animal out of clay and include everything they are learning in the unit. Let's see how it goes!

Also, some students are taking their learning further, thinking about everything learned in class and taking action; selecting and producing meaningful things to share with the group. Bianca Farkouh (PYP5B) drew animals that use camouflage. Pedro Henrique Fonseca, Bella Camargo and Julia Gonzalez (PYP5O) brought scales to show measuring tools from their houses.
