Welcome to PYP 5!

Welcome to PYP 5!

It is very exciting to meet new students and start supporting them in their learning journey this year!

Students have already been very busy these first couple of days! They participated in different ice break activities to get to know each other and make new friends. They are back to school working hard to produce their own clear and meaningful class agreements for the best of each member of the group.

Students have also been thinking about their role in the school, in the classroom and within a group. What is expected from them? What can they expect from others? What is the best they can do? It's a lot of thinking, discussing, communicating, analyzing, organizing information.... Hard work!

Yes, the school year has started!

We thank all parents who attended our ‘Welcome Meeting’ last Wednesday, 3rd August.

In case you were unable to attend these are some important documents we shared:

  • Parent Survey - let us know more about your child. Hand in the completed form to your child’s class teacher.
  • Recorder letter - one of the new things our student will be doing is to learn how to play the recorder during their Music lessons. The letter contains important information about the programme and purchase of this instrument.

We would also kindly like to ask parents to carefully read and sign the College Rules found at the beginning of your child’s diary. It is important we are all on the same page -please refer any doubts to your class teacher.

DON’T FORGET:
  • In order to ensure your child’s safety, complete the ‘PERMANENT AUTHORISATION” page of your child’s diary. Apart from parents, only people referred on those pages will be allowed to pick up your child.
Relatives - only their full name and ID number is needed.
Employees (drivers & nannies) - 2 copies of their ID document is required, even if they are the same ones as last year’s.
  • Art T-shirt - please send in an old t-shirt which will be kept in your child’s locker to be used for carrying out activities in which we might get dirty!
  • Toothbrush -  ensure a cap is included
  • Cereal Box - for our first Art/ Literacy activity.

HOUSES:
As a student in PYP 5, your child is now a member of  the College’s House System.

The House System encourages responsibility, loyalty, cooperation, sportsmanship and teamwork.

There are three Houses at the college; Falcons (blue), Condors (green) and Eagles (red). Throughout the year there are various social, sporting and academic events in which all Houses participate, some organised by our Primary Student Council.

A letter will soon be sent home with information about your child’s House. Please note that these cannot be changed as they are determined by the school.

The first major House event your child is invited to take part in is the much awaited ‘Peralta's’ camp.

HOMEWORK:
Homework will always be posted on our blog on Mondays for your reference. There is no need for parents to print these as these will always be sent via your child’s folder. Homework is expected to be handed in from one day to another.

Our homework days are:
Mondays - Language
Wednesday - Portuguese
Thursday - Maths

A very busy year is ahead of us!
Take a look:

We learned we have to cooperate when playing the Amoeba Tag Game.

Drawing our self-portraits to help us brainstorm for our first writing activity: a letter of why they are a special member of our group.

Brushing up our addition and subtraction skills in finding our partners.

Ms Aronne read the book Oh, The Places You'll Go and students wrote their goals for PYP 5.

Students discussed the Learner Profile to create their set of class agreements for the year

Creating a reading routine

They learned that we need to communicate and trust each other to work together and achieve our goals

Let's have a great year!
