This last unit of PYP 5 started with students analyzing many different images of living and non-living things and working in groups to create a classification to organize them into groups. Then, they compared their organization to that of other groups and peer-assessed, giving feedback to each other. After this provocation to the Unit, students were introduced to the scientific classification of living things and they chose a class of animals to research about.
Students also had some time to talk to the librarians, Mr. Boyd and Ms. Vasconcellos, about the organisation of the library and the Dewey System. It was a meaningful talk, especially because then student could go themselves search for resources for their research.
Throughout the week PYP 8 was presenting their Exhibition and PYP 5 was invited to visit their stalls and watch some presentations. It was a great experience with lots of learning!
In PYP 5 Beta, Laura de Castro brought a newspaper article about cleaning Lagoa da Pampulha. She made a connection with Earth's Day and Ms. Faria's talk. Also, Bianca Farkouh did a research at home about reptiles and Elena Miranda brought two books about Reptiles for her research.
Have a nice week!
